  • Daan Couzijn (NL, 1994) is an interdisciplinary, conceptual artist currently living and working in Amsterdam and Paris. After studying vocal performance at Codarts (Rotterdam Conservatory of Music), he continued his education at the Institute of Performative Arts in Maastricht (Toneelacademie Maastricht), where he graduated with a BA in Performance Art. As the final stage of his studies, Couzijn completed the Radical Cut-Up program at the Sandberg Instituut (postgraduate program of the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam) in June 2019, obtaining a MA in Fine Art and Design.

At the core of his artistic practice lies both the pursuit and the questioning of authenticity. His work explores the tension between the romantic notion that artists should strive for authenticity and the postmodern belief that everything builds upon what has come before. He investigates how meaning and value shift or are lost over time. In doing so, he repurposes existing images and objects, fragmenting and reassembling them. While their origin becomes blurred, the echo of their past remains. Through this approach, he examines how we define authenticity and how our perception of value is shaped.
