Carole Vanderlinden BE, b. 1973
Carole Vanderlinden's artwork enraptures the viewer instantly. It’s rare to encounter an artist with no fixed style and a fearlessness to abandon initial recognizability.
With Carole Vanderlinden every painting is a work in progress. Carole imagines, attempts and doubts in paint, wrestles, derails and also disrupts. It creates paintings in formats ranging from tiny to monumental, with a delightful mix of colors that appear as faded administrative colors, but are actually nuanced vibrant colors. Her delightful mix of colors may initially appear faded, akin to administrative hues, but upon closer examination, they reveal nuanced vibrancy.
Her paintings are seductive with a sharp edge, simultaneously fresh and weathered. They blur the line between figurative and abstract, defying categorization. Carole Vanderlinden is not just one painter, but many: style—or rather, a single style—does not interest her.
Therefore each artwork carries a unique appearance, exuding incredible richness while maintaining a striking simplicity. She finds fascination in the unpredictable power of color and paint. Certain recurring elements, such as slanting passe-partouts, plant motifs, skies, and water scenes, are recognizable. Contrasts between thin and thick brushwork or matte and glossy sections add depth, while textures create a sense of "transparency."
Carole's art pays homage to the boundless freedom of imagination, drawing immense inspiration from the present moment itself.
