Wouter Feyaerts BE, b. 1980

Biography

Wouter Feyaerts (°1980, Belgium) has his own method for producing artwork. It already starts with an unconventional work method. He does not use good quality materials, according to the traditional techniques taught, on the contrary. Each artwork is constructed from disposable materials like cardboard boxes, plastic bags, tape and a final layer of glue, a white, depending on the thickness, semi-transparent wood or paper glue. Wouter Feyaerts suggests with limited combinations, because 'less is more'. Comical, caricatured figures, but that look less amusing on closer inspection, because under the skin there is a feeling of sadness and powerlessness. The human drama is hidden behind the ironic approach. The artist enters into a dialogue with the figures. 'We have to be able to look into each other's eyes, so that we can get to know each other,...he writes. And then there is the obsessive relationship to emptiness. He asks himself the question: 'How can I make something without filling the emptiness? Because surely there is no surprise without emptiness?' In his opinion the emptiness may not be touched because it holds openness in it. Wouter Feyaerts rebels, but then is always reconciled with man. He says himself in this regard: 'Rebellion is in my nature, my true pure nature and reconciliation and accompanying anointment is my culture.
