George Grosz DE, 1893-1959
Biography
Grosz started his career by contributing cartoons to German journals, but during the turbulent wartime years he switched to anti-war drawings. Grosz was active in left-wing politics and contributed to communist journals. He also became a member of the German Dada group. In the 1920-30s Grosz directed his attacks against Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party. Grosz's collected drawings, "The Face of the Ruling Class" and "Ecce Homo", earned him an international reputation as a politically committed artist
